Being alone on Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be a day fraught with misery, depression, and loneliness. Sure, it’s a special day to go above and beyond for the sake of romancing your significant other, but just because you may be without a girlfriend, boyfriend, or even a date this February 14th– don’t panic! Valentine’s Day can be a time to romance that other special person in your life – YOU!
Here are some tips on how to have a fantastic Valentine’s Day for all you single guys and gals out there!
Go out, drink, and be merry!
Sure, an online TV-watching/ice cream eating-binge would be loads of fun, but maybe instead take yourself out to a favorite restaurant or bar for some quality “you time”. If you’re worried that sitting by yourself would look sad then invite your single friends along. They probably aren’t very busy. After sharing a few drinks and swapping some dating stories you may even feel relieved you don’t have to be stressed out and running around trying to set up the “perfect” Valentine’s Day date.
Go out and meet new people!
So you’re not in a relationship, who cares? That shouldn’t stop you from starting one on Valentine’s Day! I’m not talking about asking your office crush out to a painstakingly planned night on the town after months of casual or awkward flirtation, I’m saying it’s totally cool to grab your single friends and head out to a club, concert, or sporting event for the evening and try to run into a new guy or gal. You’re not the only single person in the world and there will be tons of people looking to just have a casual time out with some new people. No pressure!
Treat yourself like the king or queen you are!
This could mean a lot of different things for a lot of different people, but just remember that you are special no matter what your relationship status is! Try going shopping with the intent to spoil yourself. Pick up some high-end makeup items, DVD box set, some jewelry, check in at a day spa-whatever you have been waiting for an excuse to buy-go for it! You like movies? Go to a movie! You want to stay home? Cook or order a brilliant feast and relax! Go out, stay in-it doesn’t matter, but do it because YOU want to.
It’s an opportunity!
No matter what you end up doing this February, try to take the opportunity that being single on Valentine’s Day provides and use it as a jumping off point for a new, New Year’s Resolution to start making yourself happy, first and foremost. It’s not the time of year to worry and stress about your love life, you have 364 other wonderful days to do that! For now, be single and be proud!
